Sports Minister Joachim Herrmann opens new artificial turf in the Oberhaching Sports School

On Tuesday, June 22nd, 2021 the time had finally come: The new artificial turf pitch in the Oberhaching Sports School was inaugurated. The Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann, who is responsible for sport, together with the BFV President Dr. Rainer Koch, the BLSV President Jörg Ammon and the managing director of the Oberhaching Sports School Uli Dickas, did the symbolic kick-off on the new playing field.

Thanks to intelligent and highly efficient turf heating, the new playing field can be used all year round and thus meets the most modern demands. At the same time, ecological aspects also played a decisive role in the construction: For example, plastic granulate was dispensed with in the filling, so that the risk of microplastics being distributed in the environment is reduced to a minimum.

“The ultra-modern artificial turf pitch with turf heating offers the best training conditions for grassroots and competitive sports. As one of the largest sports schools in Europe, the Oberhaching Sports School is setting standards with its new artificial turf pitch,” said Interior Minister Herrmann at the official opening. The Free State assumed 90 percent of the total eligible costs for the project.

“We are very happy about the opening of the new artificial turf pitch. The year-round playing field is a great added value for our sports school and now gives us the opportunity to offer our Bavarian soccer talents optimal conditions even in the winter months,” explains BFV President Rainer Koch.

“We are proud that this important sports institution has gained an attractive, year-round playing field built according to ecological criteria,” says the President of the BLSV, Jörg Ammon. “Athletes need talent, will and good soil. We have it now, thanks in part to funding from the Free State.”

In the future, Bavaria-wide football coach training and football training for the BFV selection teams will take place on the new artificial turf all year round. The best footballers from the Munich district are also supported here once a week by licensed coaches in base training. In addition, the new artificial turf can be used for other sports in addition to football.
